Welcome, young makers! Chimera is happy to include you in our artists, makers, and coworkers community! We are delighted to have you as a member and look forward to seeing your fantastic ideas come to life.

Our Youth Membership is offered to youth ages 8-17. Children under eight are restricted to specific special events, workshops, and staff-supervised tours. Before you start working at Chimera, you and your parent/guardian must understand our critical Minor’s Policy or rules. The Minor’s Policy is designed to keep you, your child, and others safe.

All policies and pricing are subject to change.

Youth Membership Policy

Chimera Youth Policy

  • Youth program eligibility is for minors between the ages of 8 and 17.

  • Children aged 8-15 must be under the direct supervision of a parent/legal guardian or authorized adult at all times they are on-site.

  • Some minors ages 16-17 may use specific equipment and site areas independently, while others (8 - 15) require being under the direct supervision of a parent/legal guardian or authorized adult at all times.  Chimera’s authorization is required and is made on a case-by-case basis.

  • Parents/legal guardians of minor members must complete and sign a Minor Participant Waiver and Release. The required paperwork must be on file before they may work on-site or participate in trainings/classes.

  • Youth members must conduct themselves responsibly and respectfully at all times.

  • Youth members must always follow staff members' and instructors' directions.  They will be subject to a Code of Conduct Violation if they do not do so and may be asked to leave Chimera permanently.

Trainings and Classes

  • Chimera Orientation is required for all minor and adult members.

  • Minors, along with their accompanying parents, legal guardians, and adult supervisor members, are required to take and pass training for each piece of equipment before use. Adult members pay the training fee at the standard rate, while Youth Members attend trainings at no cost.

  • Ages 8-15 are permitted to pay for and attend select classes with the direct supervision of a parent/legal guardian or authorized adult, who may participate in a supervisory role at no cost to the guardian.  The department manager’s and instructor’s approval is also required.

  • Ages 16-17 may take some classes independently, while some individuals or classes may require the direct supervision of a parent/legal guardian or authorized adult.  The department manager’s and instructor’s approval is also required.

Youth Access to Equipment, Trainings, Classes, and Workspaces

Chimera offers its members a variety of resources and tools. Each area requires appropriate behavior, use, and conduct, from co-working spaces to welding. Chimera’s diverse offerings have implicit risk; therefore, age-based use levels have been established.

Minors will find plenty to do at Chimera.  We look forward to watching you gain new skills and expertise!
